Hämeenlinna’s Site Manager, Jere Kortemaa, ensures that employees are informed, customer needs are met, and operations run smoothly. Managing a customer’s logistics requires clear communication both with the team and with the customer.
Jere first joined Logent in 2010. His career took a brief pause due to a move to another city, but he returned to the Hämeenlinna site in 2015 as a summer employee. He was soon made permanent and appointed as Site Manager. Jere has worked in many roles within logistics: as a warehouse worker, shift supervisor, and, since 2016, as head of his site.
At the Hämeenlinna site, customer logistics are handled on the customer’s premises. Work shifts are structured around the customer’s production cycle and are carried out in two shifts: mornings and evenings. Morning shifts are busier and require more staff. Warehouse workers and shift supervisors start as early as six in the morning.
Warehouse workers are responsible for tasks such as receiving and packing goods. Shift supervisors oversee their team to ensure that the right tasks are done at the right time. The Site Manager, in addition to leading the team, handles administrative tasks—from invoice processing to payroll—while maintaining strong customer relations.
The Site Manager enables efficient work for the team
As Site Manager, Jere is responsible for the overall operation of his site. Workdays are varied and tasks are diverse. He manages daily operations, coaches staff, resolves issues, maintains HR records, and leads development projects for the site.
Success as a Site Manager requires seeing the big picture while understanding how details impact the whole, along with strong leadership skills. Recognizing employees as individuals and trusting the team ensures the site’s success.
“For me, it’s essential that basic processes run smoothly and that you can trust your team. One of my main tasks is to enable my employees to work efficiently. I speak with them whenever possible. Communication and interaction with staff can never be emphasized enough,” Jere summarizes.
Jere has also implemented a new rotation system between workstations, which adds flexibility and supports resource management even in unexpected situations.
“Overcoming challenges is always rewarding, and successfully implementing major changes is one of the most satisfying parts of the job. But it’s important not to forget the smaller moments of joy—they’re just as rewarding. Whether I or someone else in our team solves a problem, it always creates a positive feeling.”
Customer communication at all levels strengthens collaboration
In addition to team management, the Site Manager is responsible for customer collaboration. Communication with the customer must be seamless and up to date. Even minor details need to reach everyone involved quickly to ensure the customer’s production runs on schedule.
“I work closely with both my employees and the customer’s logistics and production teams. Almost every day, different departments present unexpected situations that we solve together. It’s rewarding to define our working methods and build strong communication with the customer.”
Encouraging environment, motivation, and skills development drive success
Professional growth and continuous learning alongside work have supported Jere’s development. He has completed both a basic logistics qualification and a specialized leadership qualification while working.
“What I value most at Logent is the encouraging atmosphere and hands-on approach. I’ve had opportunities to develop myself and advance my career. I feel that when you give to Logent, you get back. Logent treats employees as individuals. You can take initiative and act decisively when needed, and the support and encouragement are always there,” Jere sums up as the best aspects of his workplace.
